One side complete but lots more to do

With a final trim the starboard side deck supports and hull planking is now pretty much complete. Focus has turned to the foredeck supports, which require completely rebuilding, the port side deck supports and sternboard.

Progress

Painting of the interior of Saga continued. At the same time some repairs were made to weakened stringers on the opposite side of the boat where tubing for rowlocks had been added at some point. Since we don't need mountings for rowlocks we are removing the rusting tubing and restoring the stringers to strenghten them. Work has also started on replacing the underdeck foredeck supports.

More Paint, Glue and Elbow Grease

Painting of the interior of Saga has started. It is easier to get this job done before the new deck is attached. A section of rotten side planking which had previously been cut out had a new replacement section glued into position.

Linda

The tender Linda has been stripped back ready for repairs to be made to her planking and some internal fittings. Work has continued on the internal cleanup of the ex-steam boat Nellie who'es interior was rather grubby from years of coal dust, steam and oil washing around it.

Gluing up

With new side deck cross supports cut it was now time to glue the replacements into place. Screws were driven into the ends of the glued cross supports to pin them in place while the wood glue dried.

Redecking work starts

Reddecking work on Saga has started in earnest now that the summer sailing season has ended. First the original coaming was removed then the hull was clamped and strapped to restore its original shape which had deformed a little when the original decking failed.

Work could then begin on all the decking support struts that need to be replaced.

Preping for work on Saga

Searching for bits of Saga

With Saga moved away from the main storage shed ready for winter work to begin it was necessary to locate and move all the bits previously removed from Saga. This became a game of find and seek as we search high and low to find all the missing bits. Fortuantely we have a policy of labelling all items removed from a boat so that we can eventually return fittings to their original boat.

Work also continued cleaning out the interior of Linda - the scrapped interior was washed in prepapration for repainting.
