3 Steps Forwards and 1 Step Backwards

Saga has received her first coat 'sealing' coat of varnish. This coat will be lightly sanded back before subsequent coats are applied.

The interior of Doris has pretty much been finished, some deck work remains to be completed.

Work has started on cleaning out the inside of Laverne.

Cingalee has been put back on a trailer ready for moving back inside as her paint work is suffering having been outside for well over a year now. Her paint work will require some work when we have time.

Looking Back

Many other things are going on in Orkney during the summer months so less time is available to work on boats. A few photo's from 2017 of the Otter Bank, more details here. The restored Otter Bank was on display in an old Romney Hut at Lyness, Hoy until the Lyness Museum closed for refurbishment in late 2017. The Otter Bank has been in storage ever since.

Locked Out!

Being the summer some of the regular volunteers are sometimes away on vacation or just out for a sail around the islands. This was the case last week for this blogger. This week - we have been locked out of one of the storage sheds we still have boats in. This happens from time-to-time when one of the other parties we shared the shed with forget to lock the separate padlocks in a chain and instead lock the two ends of the chain together. It will get sorted.

Painting continues on parts of Doris.

and when not working some of the team get together for chat over coffee.

Not all our work is on boats

The restoration of 3 tonne lifting gantry is complete and the rebuilt gantry has now been lifted onto its wheels.

We also completed maintenance work on one of the boats trailers which required a strap replacing.
The larch wood log delivered a couple of weeks ago have been moved to a more convenient position at the side of the storage shed.
Today there was some discussion on what and how further work on some of the boats should progress.
and a little painting was fitted in.

Not such a nice day in Orkney

A wee bit wet-n-windy today so inside work only.

Sunshine & not much wind

A rather pleasant day so a technical discussion by the boat door

Elsewhere the interior of Doris has been washed out and is now being allowed to thoroughly dry before we vac out any remaining debris. The internal fittings have been removed and are being cleaned up and prep'd for paint.

The dinghy Shamrock needs her Shamrock symbol restored on her stern so we have a template and are now deciding where to paint the new Shamrock.

On Saga we have to figure out where all the fixtures that we removed should be put back on.
