Not all our work is on boats

The restoration of 3 tonne lifting gantry is complete and the rebuilt gantry has now been lifted onto its wheels.

We also completed maintenance work on one of the boats trailers which required a strap replacing.
The larch wood log delivered a couple of weeks ago have been moved to a more convenient position at the side of the storage shed.
Today there was some discussion on what and how further work on some of the boats should progress.
and a little painting was fitted in.

Not such a nice day in Orkney

A wee bit wet-n-windy today so inside work only.

Sunshine & not much wind

A rather pleasant day so a technical discussion by the boat door

Elsewhere the interior of Doris has been washed out and is now being allowed to thoroughly dry before we vac out any remaining debris. The internal fittings have been removed and are being cleaned up and prep'd for paint.

The dinghy Shamrock needs her Shamrock symbol restored on her stern so we have a template and are now deciding where to paint the new Shamrock.

On Saga we have to figure out where all the fixtures that we removed should be put back on.

The problem with birds

For the past couple of weeks we have had a several birds nesting on the top of one of our roller doors. Fortunately we haven't needed to use the roller door so we just left them alone. This morning one of the birds had found its way inside the building and couldn't work out how to get back outside again. We left a side door open and after a while it worked out how to escape.

Between rain showers worked continued on the 3 tonne lifting frame we recently acquired.

Inside work continued on cleaning out the inside of Doris which has several years of accumulated dust & debris in it.

Lagertha get plated

The contemporary yole Lagertha, which was donated to OHBS last year, has finally had a builders plate installed.

Further research about the lifeboat from the Norwegian Motor Tanker Arne Kjøde (known to us as AKL) has turned up a couple more photographs which include the ships lifeboats. These will prove very helpful when we get around to restoring AKL.

Very hot and no wind

With the fine weather continuing many volunteers were away doing other things which left a small group to sort through the newly arrived cut timber to see what we had received.
